Tompkins Financial Advisors is pleased to announce that Mary Szabat, CFP®, has joined the western New York team as senior wealth advisor, serving Erie, Genesee and Niagara counties. She will be based in the Tompkins Financial Advisors’ Sully’s Trail, Pittsford, office until the new Buffalo location at 1 Hopkins Road opens this fall.
In her new role, Mary will lead the Buffalo Niagara market overseeing all aspects of collaborative and comprehensive wealth management and financial planning services. She will work closely with clients to identify their personal objectives for wealth management and develop targeted strategies to meet their goals.

With more than 35 years of experience, Mary previously was an investment and financial planning officer with Canandaigua National Bank, where she managed portfolios and provided comprehensive financial planning to high net worth individuals and trust beneficiaries. Previously, she held several financial services positions with M&T Bank including 12 years as a brokerage trader specializing in sophisticated option and margin transactions, wealth management and institutional investment advisory services. She also spent two years as a retirement consultant with Enhanced Retirement Solutions LLC, acting as a strategic 401(k) partner for banks, advisors, and plan sponsors across New York State. In addition to her professional experience, Mary is an adjunct professor at Canisius College in the finance/economics program.
Mary holds an associate’s degree in Business Administration from Erie Community College, a bachelor’s degree in Communications from State University of New York at Buffalo, and a master’s degree in Organizational Communication and Development from Canisius College. She is also a Certified Financial Planner. A native and resident of Amherst, she is actively involved in the community.
